Here She Goes
Ziza has been on a path. That path has lead her to the top of her class at her predominately white prep school. Her working-class parents, Laverne and Emmanuel, are excited to send her off to an Ivy League college to study pre-med.
However, Ziza has recently been deviating from that expected path. She’s secretly been writing screenplays. She flirts with the idea of applying to film school and gathers her group of friends to help her make a movie she’s written: a story about a suburban white boy who has declared that he’s quitting school to join the circus. Through voice-over and “a film within a film”, we get a glimpse into Ziza’s imagination and creative voice. But it isn’t all smooth sailing. While making the film, Ziza discovers a dark truth about her storytelling tendencies.
