Flowstate /North Brooklyn Artists: COBY KENNEDY
Host Ralf Jean-Pierre visits artist Coby Kennedy in Bushwick. Coby gives Ralf a tour of his loft, which was built out with multiple rooms, a common practice among artists living in industrial spaces. Coby’s work explores Jim Crow, colorism, and a racist social system that has created monsters such as the “Thuggernaut”. Coby doesn’t hide his disdain for the art world, where he feels artists are “cogs in the machine.” Ralf contemplates that Coby, a former car designer, is now like a shaman in his high castle overlooking Bushwick, creating works that tell the story of the tribe - works that combine violence, science fiction, and industry.
